About This Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how AkKod ("we", "us", or "the developer") handles information when you use KnightWise Chess (the "App") on iOS or Android.
Data Stored on Your Device
The App stores information needed for gameplay and personalization locally on your device, including:
- Your chosen display name and local player identifier
- Language, theme, sound, vibration, and other settings
- Local rating, statistics, streaks, and offline match history
- Puzzle and lesson progress, including daily puzzle allowances
- Your avatar selection
If you choose a photo from your gallery as an avatar, the App accesses your photo library only after you initiate that action. The selected photo remains stored on your device and is not uploaded to our servers. If you choose a built-in catalog avatar, only its catalog identifier may be synchronized for online and friends features.
KnightWise Chess does not use the camera, microphone, contacts, or precise GPS location.
Anonymous Account and Supabase
On first use, and whenever an online account is active, the App connects to Supabase and creates or resumes an anonymous account at startup, not only when you begin an online match. If you delete that account, the App does not create another one until you expressly choose to create a new online account.
The account uses a randomly generated user identifier. We do not require your real name, email address, phone number, or password to create it. However, information processed through online and social features is linked to this anonymous identifier.
The App may also initialize your social profile and presence at startup. This can process your display name, anonymous user identifier, friend code, and presence or last-seen information even before you start a match.
When you use online play, friend features, or quick chat, Supabase may process:
- Your chosen display name, rating, and built-in avatar identifier
- Your friend code, friend list, requests, blocks, and game invitations
- Presence, last-seen, and connection status
- Matchmaking and invite information
- Online game sessions, board positions, moves, results, and game state
- The predefined quick-chat messages you select
Some of this information is shown to your opponent or friends as required by the feature. Free-text chat is not provided. We use this data to operate online gameplay and social features, not for personalized advertising or cross-app tracking.
Not using online matches, friends, or chat prevents the related match and interaction data from being created, but it does not prevent the initial anonymous Supabase sign-in and social initialization described above.
Cloudflare Online Session Fallback
If Supabase cannot be initialized, the App may use a Cloudflare Worker and Cloudflare KV as a fallback for casual online chess sessions. This fallback is used for online session functionality, not for subscriptions, advertising, friends, or local-game cloud backup. It may process:
- Your local player identifier, chosen display name, and rating
- Matchmaking waiter, session, and participant identifiers
- Online board positions, moves, clocks, results, and session state
- The predefined quick-chat messages you select
- Heartbeat, presence, and connection-status information
- Network and security information, such as your IP address, that Cloudflare processes to deliver and protect the service
This information is used to match players, operate and secure the fallback online game, synchronize session state, and recover from connection changes. The fallback does not create a Supabase account. Deleting an active Supabase account does not automatically delete Cloudflare fallback records; you may contact us with sufficient session or local-player information to request that we assess whether related fallback records can be located and deleted.
Cloud Saves
A separate external cloud-save service for offline games, settings, or puzzle progress is not enabled in the current release. Those items remain on your device. Supabase stores the online session and social data described above; it is not used as a cloud backup for your local puzzle or offline-game progress. The Cloudflare fallback may store the casual online-session data described above, but it is likewise not used as a backup for local progress.
Subscriptions and Payments
KnightWise Chess uses RevenueCat to manage KnightWise Pro and theproentitlement. RevenueCat may process:
- A RevenueCat App User ID connected to your anonymous Supabase user ID
- Purchase history and product information
- Subscription and entitlement status
- Purchase restoration information
This information is used to activate and restore Pro access, verify subscription status, and provide subscription analytics. RevenueCat entitlement checks may occur when the App starts, including for users who have not purchased a subscription.
Payments are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play. KnightWise Chess and RevenueCat do not receive or store your full credit or debit card details.
Optional Rewarded Ads
Free users may choose to watch a non-personalized rewarded ad:
- To receive additional practice puzzles after the free daily allowance is used
- To perform a takeback in a bot or free local game
Ads are displayed only after you expressly choose to watch one. The App does not contain banner, interstitial, app-open, online-match, friend-match, chat, or Conquest ads. Pro users are not offered ads.
Google Mobile Ads and Google User Messaging Platform ("UMP") may initialize, make network requests, or preload an ad before you choose to watch it. They may process:
- Approximate location inferred from your IP address
- Device or app identifiers
- App, product, ad-request, ad-view, and ad-interaction information
- Advertising delivery and performance data
- Crash, diagnostic, and performance information
Google may use this information for non-personalized ad delivery, advertising measurement, analytics, diagnostics, fraud prevention, security, and compliance. Non-personalized advertising limits personalization; it does not mean that no data is processed.
No ATT, IDFA, or Tracking
KnightWise Chess does not request Apple App Tracking Transparency permission, does not use the IDFA, and declares that it does not track users across other companies' apps or websites.
The App does not use collected data for personalized advertising. Google may still process the limited information described above for non-personalized advertising, measurement, diagnostics, and security.
Cookies and Similar Technologies
The App does not provide a web-browsing experience and does not use browser cookies for its own features. The service-provider SDKs described in this Policy may use device or app identifiers, SDK storage, cached data, or similar technologies to maintain anonymous sessions, remember consent choices, verify subscription status, prevent fraud, and deliver or measure non-personalized ads. These technologies are used only for the purposes described in this Policy.
When Google UMP privacy options are required for your region, you can review or change the available choices under Profile > Ad privacy options.
Service Providers and Data Protection
We disclose information only to the service providers identified in this Policy as reasonably necessary to provide the App, process purchases, deliver optional non-personalized rewarded ads, measure service performance, prevent fraud, maintain security, or comply with law. We do not sell personal information.
We take reasonable steps to use service providers that provide the same or equivalent protection for personal information described in this Policy and limit their handling of information to the services they provide or other legally permitted purposes. These providers also process information under their own terms and privacy policies:
Retention and Deletion
Local data remains on your device until you change or remove it, clear the App's data through your device settings, or uninstall the App. Deleting your online account does not delete local gameplay progress or preferences.
Retention periods for server-side records vary according to the type of data and its purpose. Anonymous account, social, online-session, and quick-chat records may remain for as long as reasonably necessary to operate, secure, and maintain the relevant features or comply with legal obligations. Supabase, Cloudflare, Apple, Google, RevenueCat, and Google's advertising services retain information according to their own operational and legal requirements. We do not apply a single fixed retention period to every category.
The App provides an in-app control to permanently delete your online account. After you confirm deletion, the anonymous Supabase account, server-side social profile, friendships, messages, and any ongoing online games in which you are participating are permanently deleted. The App does not automatically create a new anonymous account after deletion; a new online account is created only after you expressly choose to do so.
Deleting your online account does not cancel an Apple App Store or Google Play subscription. You must manage or cancel an active subscription through the store where you purchased it. Uninstalling the App does not necessarily delete records held by Supabase, Cloudflare, RevenueCat, Google, Apple, or Google Play.
You may contact us to submit a privacy or data request. We will assess the request under applicable law and the technical information available. Because the App uses an anonymous account, we may need sufficient technical information to locate records associated with you.
Your Choices
You can:
- Choose whether to use online matches, friends, quick chat, subscriptions, and rewarded ads
- Decline a rewarded ad by not selecting the ad option
- Review available Google UMP choices under Profile > Ad privacy options when that option is required and displayed for your region
- Change photo-library permission through your device settings
- Permanently delete your online account using the in-app account-deletion control
- Manage or cancel subscriptions through your Apple App Store or Google Play account
- Remove local data through your device's app-storage controls or by uninstalling the App
- Contact us with a privacy or data request
Security
Data sent to Supabase, Cloudflare, RevenueCat, Google, Apple, and Google Play is transmitted using encrypted HTTPS/TLS connections. We also use access controls intended to limit online session and social data to authorized users and services. No method of electronic storage or transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Children's Privacy
KnightWise Chess is suitable for general audiences and is not specifically directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when the App, its service providers, or applicable requirements change. The date at the top will show when the policy was last updated.
